Kitchen hearth, Portland Castle, Portland, Dorset
The large kitchen fireplace with bread oven to the left. Construction of the castle began in 1540 in order to protect Weymouth Harbour from possible French or Spanish invasion. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010).
