Magdalen College School, Brackley, Northamptonshire

This school is on the site of The Hospital of St James and St John. It was founded in 1150 by Robert le Bossu, Earl of Leicester. In 1484 the hospital was given to Magdalen College, Oxford. By 1548 a school had been established. Its original purpose was to let pupils of the college in Oxford escape the plague affecting Oxford at the time. It was safer for them to study here.
