Midnight Chapel, Waltham Abbey, Essex

This chapel was built in the late 12th century. It forms an entry to the former cloister of the Abbey of the Holy Cross. The abbey was founded in 1030 and was constructed on this site by Harold Godwinson. Waltham was the last monastic house in the area to be dissolved and it was granted to the Denny family in 1540.
