Napoleonic fort guardhouse, Berry Head, Torbay

This Guardhouse is now a café. It was built in 1798-1802 in response to the threat of invasion from the French ruler Napoleon. France declared war on Britain in February 1793. This was part of the French Revolutionary Wars of 1793-1802. Then the Napoleonic Wars started in 1803 and ended in 1815 with the Battle of Waterloo.
