Neolithic (New Stone Age) house at Skara Brea, Orkney, Scotland

This is a view of house number 7, which is part of the Neolithic (New Stone Age) village at Skara Brea. The village was built around 5,000 years ago. It is the best preserved example of a prehistoric village in Northern Europe. Inside each house is a hearth and pieces of 'fitted' furniture. As seen here these include a stone dresser for storing or displaying things, two 'box-beds' for sleeping in and several small tanks/boxes set into the ground - perhaps for preparing bait for fishing.
