Number 1 Slip, Devonport Naval Dockyard, Devonport, Plymouth, Devon

Devonport has been an important naval base since the reign of William III. 'Slips' were slipways, used for ship building or repair. Number 1 Slip at Plymouth was built in 1774-5 and is the only surviving 18th-century slip in a royal dockyard.
