Old furnace at Hopewell Colliery, West Dean, Gloucestershire

The entrance to this coal mine was built in 1810-1820 by a David Mushet. He was a distinguished geologist and metallurgist, iron-master and colliery owner. He acquired the mine in the early 19th century. It is a rare and early example of an adit or drift mine in the Forest of Dean.
