Old School, Burton Latimer, Northamptonshire
This building was built as a house in 1622. It then became the village school. It has the inscription 'BUILT. 1622/THE FRE. SCHOOLE. WAS. FOUNDED/BY. THOMAS. BURBANKE. AND/MARGARET. HIS. WIFE. 1587…'. Thomas Burbank was described as "founder of the free school in Burton Latimer" at his death in 1578. Therefore it is possible that the date 1587 inscribed here is a mason's error.
