Pair of Houses, Garden Village, Kingston Upon Hull

Nos.77 and 79 Village Road were built in 1909. They are two of the houses designed by Runton & Barry for the first phase of the Garden Village development built by the Reckitt family. They were industrialists and shared the dream of others such as the Cadburys of providing a model community for their workforce to live in, close to their place of work. The idea was to provide a nostalgic, rural, village setting in the heart of a large city. The house designs and street names all reflected this idea.
