Reigate Priory, Reigate, Surrey

This house (dating mainly from the 1770s) stands on the site of an Augustinian priory and hospital. The priory and hospital were founded in 1217-1235 by William de Warren. There was a hospital here until the 14th century. The priory was dissolved in 1536. At the dissolution it was granted to William, 1st Lord Howard of Effingham. He built a house on the site which incorporated parts of the priory. Since then a series of houses have been built and altered on the site.
