Remains of Abingdon Abbey, Abingdon, Oxfordshire

Abingdon Abbey was one of the most important monastic centres in England. It was founded in in 675. It was built on the site of an earlier minster and Benedictine monastery. The abbey was suppressed (closed) in 1538. There is nothing left of the church, but other buildings such as this one, have survived. It was known as the Long Gallery.
