Rykneld Mill, Brook Street, Derby

A large silk mill built for Thomas Bridgett around 1808 with later additions. The original complex had a weaving mill, throwing mill, ribbon mill and an engine house with a boiler house and a chimney. The South mill has a fire-proof construction with iron framed floors and brick arches. This building may well be the earliest fire-proof silk mill in England.
