Sandal Castle, Wakefield, West Yorkshire

Sandal Castle was rebuilt in 1328 on the site of a Norman motte and bailey castle. It is largely demolished but with ruins of fine masonry. The Castle became Crown Property in mid 14th century. It was also twice besieged by Parliamentary forces in the 1640s, during the civil war.
