Shakespeare's Birthplace, Henley Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire

An interior view of one of the ground floor rooms of Shakespeare's Birthplace. This timber-framed town house, now a museum, dates from the late fifteenth century. It was extensively restored by the Shakespeare Birthday Committee (now the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust) between 1857 and 1868. The poet and playwright William Shakespeare was born in the house and spent his childhood there. He later also spent the first five years of his marriage with Anne Hathaway at the house. 1855 is very early for an interior photograph to have been taken as they needed a large amount of light.
