Sheep Shearing in Northamptonshire

This farm worker is shearing a sheep in the parishes of either Catesby or Hellidon in Northamptonshire. The exact date of the picture is not recorded, but it was taken in the early part of the 20th century, or possibly the very last years of the 19th. He is using hand clippers, rather than the mechanical ones used later and holds the sheep down with his leg - its head is under his left foot.
