Sherborne Old Castle, Castleton, Dorset

Old Sherborne Castle was built by Roger, bishop of Salisbury in 1107-1135. Some of the Norman arcading can still be seen. Sir Walter Raleigh began to restore the castle in 1592, but abandoned his plans and instead built New Sherborne Castle nearby. The Old Castle is now (2011) in the care of English Heritage.
