South Gate, London Road, Kings Lynn, Norfolk

The South Gate to Kings Lynn was built in the late 13th century. It was repaired with stone (surplus to requirements of the Lady Chapel of St Nicholas) in 1416 after it was found to be in a dangerous condition. In 1437 Robert Hertanger was contracted to rebuild the gate. In 1520 the gate was substantially restored and partly rebuilt by Nicholas and Thomas Harmer. It was finally altered by provision of pedestrian doorways in the 19th century and in 1982 it was restored.
