St Ethelbert's Gate, The Close, Norwich, Norfolk

This gate to the cathedral close dates from c1316. It was built to replace an earlier gate that was burnt down during riots in 1272. In 1316 there was a payment for £115 towards the gate and by 1317 the gates themselves had been made. It has a chapel dedicated to St Ethelbert over the gateway. It was restored in 1815 by W. Wilkins.
