St George's Hall, Liverpool, Merseyside

St George's Hall photographed soon after it opened in 1854. It was built between 1841-57 in the Grecian style to plans by H L Elmes. It combined a concert hall and the assize courts. The road looks very rough but there are a number of horse drawn cabs and carriages. Lime Street Railway station, which stands opposite, was already open at this time.
