St Mawes Castle, St Mawes, Cornwall

The castle was built between 1540-1543 for Henry VIII as part of his coastal defence scheme. St Mawes and Pendennis stand on either side of an estuary and defend the approaches to Carrick Roads, one of the largest natural harbours in the country. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010).
