Statue of John Hampden, Market Square, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire

This statue was put up in 1911 and made by Henry C Fehr. The statue commemorates John Hampden (1595-1645) who was one of the members of parliament who challenged the power of Charles 1 in Parliament. He was MP for Buckinghamshire. He played a leading role during the Civil War and died at the battle of Battle of Chalgrove. Hampden also has a statue at the entrance of the central lobby of the Houses of Parliament.
