The Abbey Gate, Romeland, St Albans, Hertfordshire

This building was the Great Gate to St Alban's Abbey. It was built in the 14th century by Thomas de la Mare after the destruction of its predecessor in a great storm, probably in 1363. After the Dissolution is was used as a gaol until modern times and since then as part of a grammar school.
