The Abbey, Sutton Courtenay, Oxfordshire

Parts of this house date back to the early 1300s. It was originally a Benedictine Grange of Abingdon. It was probably built by William Le Breton. Thomas Bekynton (c1393–1465), rector of Sutton until 1443 and tutor to Henry VI, also lived here. At the Dissolution it passed to Thomas Wriothesley, Lord Chancellor. He sold it to Thomas Calton, a London goldsmith. His family lived in it for many generations.
