The Beach, Hastings, East Sussex

Hastings beach and promenade crowded with tourists. Sailing boats appear to be taking people on trips. There are a large number of bathing huts and a horse. Ladies would go into a hut to change and the horse would pull it into the sea. The ladies could then slip into the sea without being seen in their swimming clothes. The rowing boats pulled up on the beach were preumably for hire. Although the sea air was thought to be healthy sun bathing was clearly not popular.
