Cavalry charging near to Tidworth barracks, probably on Salisbury Plain. Large numbers of cavalry were used during World War One but their role in attacking the enemy became less important with the invention of the tank. The horses were invaluable in moving supplies and men. The number of cavalry regiments fell sharply after the war.
