Women roasting cocoa beans at Lyons factory, Hammersmith Road, London

Two women filling a Sirocco roaster with cocoa beans at the factory of J Lyons and Company, Cadby Hall, Hammersmith Road, London. During the First World War women were employed in jobs left vacant by men fighting on the front. This photograph was taken for J Lyons and Company who purchased Cadby Hall in Hammersmith, a former piano showroom and associated manufacturing buildings, in 1894. They occupied the site until the 1980s producing a wide range of foodstuffs.
