Church of St Mary, High Street Haversham, Milton Keynes
Church of St Mary, High Street Haversham, Milton Keynes MK19 7DT
The church of St Mary at Haversham is a Grade I listed building located on the edge of the old village. It was established in the 12th century. The tower was the first substantial stone structure, the nave added some twenty years later. The east facing Norman dog-toothed window looked out over [presumably] a low roofed vernacular nave. The chancel is Early English, with Decorated east window. The aisles [and clerestory] are Perpendicular. Minor Victorian restoration was undertaken, but almost all the original features were retained. What remains is an essentially untouched medieval building with particularly fine chancel arch and astonishingly graceful N and S arcades.
