Fort Purbrook was constructed in the late nineteenth century as part of a range of defensive features along Portsdown Hill to protect Portsmouth naval base from landward attack. The forts are used by the Peter Ashley Activity Centre (PAAC), on a 99-year lease from Portsmouth City Council. PAAC is a registered youth Charity (1162650) with its mission being to “Contribute to the development of young people to be the best they can be whilst using the Victorian Forts for the benefit of all” Fort Purbrook offers a range of outdoor activities, residential and heritage opportunities.
Opening Arrangements
Open 52 weeks throughout 2024. Reception open 9am-4.30 Monday to Friday and 9am-1pm Saturday and Sunday. Further information on activities and events on our website.
