Kensal Green Cemetery, Harrow Road
Kensal Green Cemetery, Harrow Road, London W10 4RA
Kensal Green Cemetery, itself on HE’s Heritage at Risk Register, was laid out in 1832 and is the earliest of the Magnificent Seven cemeteries. It is the only one that is still managed by the original commercial company, The General Cemetery Company, that founded it, and this does add to its significance. It contains a number of HAR listed structures including the Anglican Chapel and catacomb, Grade I; the North Colonnade and catacomb, Grade II; the cemetery boundary wall, Grade II (all at risk). Over 130 of the tombs are separately listed, of which currently 28 are on the HAR Register. In addition, the Dissenters’ Chapel and the entrance gateway opposite Wellington Road are Grade II* listed. This collection of monuments and buildings represents an extraordinary range of architectural and social history interest and contributes significantly to the structure and aesthetic of the Grade I landscape.
