Lumsdale Mills Complex, Lumsdale Valley, Matlock

A natural ravine containing the ruined remains of Lumsdale Mills, associated ponds and other water management features relating to smelting lead, spinning cotton, bleaching cotton and grinding barytes from the 17th to 20th centuries.

Opening Arrangements

The Permissive Footpath through the site is open all day every day. However the area around the Paint Mill is currently closed because of the danger of falling masonry although it can be viewed from a public footpath. The cotton mill and bleach works known as Garton's Mill can be viewed from the public road.

At the southern end of the site adjacent to Garton's Mill in Lumsdale Road (DE4 5NG). Otherwise on the public road in Upper Lumsdale near Highfields School (DE4 5NA) about 500m away along a private lane
