Newman Brothers Coffin Fitting Works, 13-15 Fleet Street, Birmingham B3 1JP

Purpose-built factory for the manufacture of fittings (handles, ornaments etc.) and funerary shrouds and coffin linings. The factory was built in 1894 and closed in 1999, when it was left with all its contents intact as if at the end of an ordinary working day. Costumed guides tell the story of the manufacturing process and of the people who worked there.

Opening Arrangements

The Museum is open four days a week, Thursday to Sunday and offers both guided tours and self-guided visits between 10:45am-3pm. Thursdays (tour only): tours are at 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm. Friday-Sunday: tour at 11am only and self-guided visits from 12pm-3pm. Booking advised, particularly for tours, on weekends due to high demand

Admission Charges

  • Adult: From £8.50 to £10
  • Child: £5 (under 16). Under 3 years is free
  • Other Charges: Concessions (over 65 and students) £7.50
