St Bartholomew Church, Main Road, East Lyng, Taunton TA3 5AU

St Bartholomew Church is a 12th century church. Thought to have been built by monks from Athelney Abbey. The three stage tower is made from hamstone and is supported by buttresses and contains a set of 6 bells. Inside the church are two handsome stained glass windows one, depicting King Alfred wearing the Alfred Jewel in his crown. The pew ends are also very interesting depicting life in the middle ages.

Opening Arrangements

The church is open daily from about 9.00am to about 4.00pm but the church wardens can be contacted to open the church outside these hours.
