The Clocktower, High Street, St Albans, AL3 4EL
The only surviving medieval belfry in England. It was built by 1405 by the people of St Albans as a symbol of resistance against the power of the Abbot of St Albans by allowing the town to ring its own hours and, until 1863, a curfew. It is a Scheduled Ancient Monument
