Knebworth House, listed Grade II*, dates from the C16 but is best known for its extraordinary Gothic style remodelling and embellishment in the C19, under the guidance of its owner, Edward Bulwer-Lytton, who, in addition to being a social figure, was also a successful novelist in the Gothic, Horror, and Occult genres.
