Wheal Martyn is unique, as the only china clay museum in the UK, possibly the world. The Accredited museum tells the story of Cornwall’s largest mining industry, which shaped the lives of the people, economy and landscape of the area. The museum is set within two Victorian china clay works, one is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, and holds an extensive collection of objects relating to the industry and a substantial archive. Wheal Martyn is also the Area Centre for Area 8 (Charlestown and Luxulyan Valley) of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site
