London Now and Then: Aerial Images From 1948 Compared to Today
Queen Elizabeth's coronation took place on 2 June 1953. The Historic England Archive holds a collection of RAF Aerofilm aerial views of London taken just five years earlier.
Mapping and analytics company Esri UK has taken these images and created an interactive map that lets you compare those historic aerial photos with modern high definition satellite images of London.

The RAF Aerofilms collection was recently published by Historic England as part of the Aerial Photo Explorer. You can explore over 400,000 digitised photos taken from our aerial photo collections of over 6 million photographs preserved in the Historic England Archive.
