Historic England Grants £65,000 to Sheffield City Council to Protect City’s Special Heritage

Historic England has awarded £65,000 to Sheffield City Council to develop a series of plans aimed at preserving and enhancing the city’s unique heritage for future generations.

The funding will used to create 6 Conservation Area Management Plans (CAMPs) in historically important parts of the city: the conservation areas of Sheffield City Centre, Kelham Island, Ranmoor, Endcliffe, Oakes Park, and Norton.

Each of these areas is known for its unique architectural heritage and historical significance, but they also face pressure from ongoing development. The CAMPs will provide essential tools and guidelines to manage change sensitively, balancing growth with preservation.

This funding is part of Historic England’s ongoing commitment to supporting local authorities in maintaining and improving the historic environment, particularly in areas undergoing significant transformation.

These Conservation Area Management Plans will help safeguard the unique heritage of Sheffield’s conservation areas while guiding sustainable development. It’s about preserving the city’s proud heritage while planning for the future, ensuring that these areas continue to thrive and serve the community.
