Church of St Mary, Durham Street, Hartlepool, Headland - Hartlepool (UA)

Designed in 1850 by the architect JA Hansom, St Mary's church has a west tower (from which a spire was removed c1945) and a bowed apsidal chancel. The external limestone walls are displaying numerous problems, including multiple vertical fractures at the west end of the building, some pockets of deep erosion, open joints, internal powdering and inappropriate cement repairs which are failing. Funding is being pursued as part of a site-wide strategy that includes the repair of the adjoining Presbytery.
