Church of St Margaret, Cowlinge - West Suffolk
Dedicated to St Margaret's of Antioch. On an ancient site, the church is mainly constructed in C14 of flint and stone rubble. The clerestory is C15; red brick tower is C18th. Nave, chancel and porch roofs tiled. King post roof trusses in nave which may be C15. Early plastered ceiling. Mediaeval rood screen c1400. The chancel arch contains significant traces of a large medieval wall painting depicting the weighing of souls. Much ancient wall plaster. Nave roof, chancel and north porch roofs also in poor condition with missing tiles. Possibly inadequate drainage.
