Church of St Mary De Castro, Castle Yard, Leicester - Leicester, City of (UA)
Founded c1107 as a collegiate chapel attached to Leicester Castle. Fabric dates from early C13 and C14, with later C15 and C18 alterations, and 1853-4 restoration by Sir George Gilbert Scott. A National Lottery Heritage Fund grant was awarded in 2011 for a detailed assessment of the spire. The condition of masonry was such that urgent dismantling was necessary, this was completed in summer 2014. Repairs to the chancel roof, stonework, rainwater goods and drainage were completed under a National Lottery Heritage Fund Grant in 2019. Further works including replacing the spire are required.
