Church of St Catherine, Lorne Street, Wigan - Wigan

Church built to designs of Edmund Sharpe in 1840. Nave and aisles in single vessel, with galleries to three sides and short chancel. The west tower rises to an octagonal belfry and spire. Sandstone and slate. Recent major work grant aided under the Historic England / National Lottery Heritage Fund Repair Grants for Places of Worship scheme has stabilised the tower and spire. A combination of subsidence and corrosion of ironwork has damaged mullions, leaving the tower windows needing temporary support and the aisle mullions cracked.
