Church of St Michael, Market Place, Macclesfield - Cheshire East (UA)
Impressive town centre medieval church with principal extensions from 1501 to 1628. The exterior envelope is predominantly C19. Refurbished in the late C20 and reordered for community use with parish offices in the tower. A lively and fully used church. Some of the principal roofs are near the end of their life, as are the gutters. Water ingress in various locations and has damaged some C15 alabaster recumbent figures in the Savage Chapel. The church houses one of the largest collections of effigies in the diocese of Chester.
