Old farmhouse with integral barn at East Barton, Exeter Road, Tiverton - Mid Devon
The building dates from C16 and the house has not been occupied in liviing memory. It is a very rare example of a house with integral barn, being an evolved form of the longhouse. It retains considerable evidence of its form and function including important early features such as jointed cruck roof trusses, two internal jetties and substantial floor beams. The building is largely water tight, but there is slow structural failure of internal elements and deterioration of some external cob walls. A previous conversion scheme lapsed and there are no current proposals for its reuse or repair.
