Royal Mausoleum, The Home Park, Windsor - Windsor and Maidenhead (UA)

Mausoleum of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, 1862-71. Damp problems put external and internal historic fabric at risk, including internal paintings. Original rainwater drainage was inadequate and poorly designed. Consented programme of repairs was completed in 2019 to make the exterior weather-tight and prevent moisture from entering the building via the raised perimeter paving. Since 2009 an environmental monitoring regime confirms high level drying out. Regular monitoring continues. It will be some years before the building is dry enough to accommodate interior conservation work.
