Christ Church Unitarian Chapel, Dampiet Street, Bridgwater - Somerset Council (UA)
Unitarian Chapel, 1688, rebuilt1788. Flemish bond brick with stone cornice and pediment, pantile roof behind and shell hood over central doors. Rectangular plan with added late C19 schoolroom to rear right. Good late C18 interior. The oldest non-conformist chapel in Bridgwater, founded 1662. The first building was demolished by the authorities in 1683 and its contents burned on the Cornhill. Samuel Taylor Coleridge preached there in 1797 and 1798. Also contains a saddle pattern boiler serving cast iron floor troughs intended to heat the building. Issues with roofs, drainage and windows.
