Water treatment works by engineer Joseph Quick for Southwark and Vauxhall Water Company,1853-1855, extended 1881-1882 by Alexander Frazer. Originally built as separate engine houses and known as 'The Beam' (west end) and 'The Bull' (east end) from the type of engines they housed.
