Details
HALTWHISTLE MARKET PLACE NY 7064 (South side) 20/17 The Black Bull Inn GV II
Inn. Late C18 and early C19 of several builds. Coursed rubble (pebble-dashed on front facing Market Place), Welsh slate and stone-tiled roofs, rendered and rebuilt brick chimney stacks. L-plan: front range with linked wing and former cottage on right rear (facing Black Bull Lane). 2-storey, 5-window front range: 2-leaf, 4-panel door at left; 2-leaf, 6-panel door at right; scattered 4-pane sashes in deep reveals (some with intermediate glazing bars removed); low- pitched Welsh slate roof with end and ridge stacks. Set-back 2-storey, 3- window rear wing of 2 builds: C20 door and casements; low-pitched stone-tiled roof has central ridge stack with water table. Former 2-storey, 2-window cottage at right-angles on rear of wing: boarded door, with flush lintel and alternating jambs, in projecting gable end; stone-tiled roof with end stack. Rear offront range facing churchyard has scattered sashes and 2 blocked square windows. Interior of front range contains a painted carved stone fireplace and overmantel dated 1828 with foliage decoration. Included for group value.
