Whirlow Court II Small country house, now judges' lodging. c1870. Coursed
squared stone with ashlar dressings and plain tile roof with 3
coped stone ridge stacks. Tudor Revival style.
EXTERIOR: plinth, string course, eaves band, crenellated
parapets, coped gables. 2 storeys; 5 window range. Double
depth plan.
Asymmetrical entrance front has central square crenellated
tower, 3 stages, with taller octagonal crenellated turret.
Canted crenellated stone oriel window with stone cross
casement, carried on buttress flanked by transomed single
light windows. Above, a double lancet with flat head and label
mould.
To right, a 4-light cross mullioned window with label mould,
flanked to right by a flat-headed single window. Below the
main window, a gabled porch with flanking buttress and moulded
doorway with hoodmould, half-glazed double door and fanlight.
On either side, a single window. Beyond, on either side, a
single flat-headed window. Above and to left, a small window
between floors.
To left of the tower, 3-light and 2-light flat-headed windows.
Below, a parapeted flat-roofed projection with a transomed
5-light cross mullioned window. To left again, a gabled
cross-wing.
Garden front has three 2 storey bay windows, the outer ones
canted and with a 3-light cross mullioned window on each
floor, the upper ones smaller. Square central bay window has
pedimented parapet with crest, and a 4-light cross mullioned
window on each floor, the lower one altered to form a French
window. On either side, a 2-light mullioned window, and below,
to right, a tall 3-light cross mullioned window.
