CORSE CHURCH LANE
SO 72 NE (north side) 10/23 Stone End II Farmhouse; possibly late C16, early to mid C18, mid C19
alterations. Flemish-bond brickwork to cross wing, rendered front
wall to front of stem, rubble stone to rear, tiled roof. 'T'
plan, 3-window stem, 2 storeys, tall 2-storey cross wing with lower
2-storey extension behind. Front: on left projecting wing,
indented canted angles to form large bay end: plinth, three 8-pane
sashes, flat rubbed brick arches over: plain brick string to
canted end only: similar windows above. Stone dentil cornice
with plain brick parapet and stone coping above, returning part way
along sides. Hipped roof: steps down to cellar door; slightly-
projecting chimney breast front of left return; chimney above.
To right, flat-roofed single-storey projection in angle with lower
stem: 6-pane sash, with 4-pane sash on canted face on right. To
right 2-light wooden casement: boarded door behind open gabled
single-storey wooden porch, carved bargeboards; lattice infill
below mid-rail in sides. Similar window to right; 3 similar
windows above, rising slightly above eaves into gabled dormers,
carved bargeboards. Very wide projecting chimney-breast right
return, smaller brick stack above on ridge: brick chimney on ridge
on left against cross wing.
Interior: main stem 6-bay roof, closed truss second from left: to
right open arch-braced collar trusses, carved boss in centre below
collar: 2 pairs flat purlins with slightly curved, single cusp
wind braces: square ridge. First-floor ceiling inserted, hiding
truss feet: wide chamfer to ground floor ceiling beams. Ground
floor front in cross wing moulded dado rail and plaster cornice:
6-fielded panels to door, panelled shutters, marble fireplace
surround with moulded edge. Stairs turned balusters and newels,
moulded handrail swept up to landings.
