Former school and school-master's house, now public house. 1848 for the National Co-operative Land Company by F. O'Connor. English bond brickwork on chamfered stone plinth; rusticated stone quoins to front: hexagonal slates. Symmetrical facade: 2-window wide, 2½-storey cross wing in centre, 3-window single-storey wings each side. Centre, 2 former doors, now windows, plain render below: marginal lights to window and fanlights, rusticated stone voussoirs under moulded frieze on consoles, pedimented block above. To right wing set back slightly, double half-glazed doors, flush panels below, plain rectangular fanlights; rusticated voussoirs to flat arch, taller keystone. Two windows to right, 2-light mullion and transom, small panes, lintel as door, stone sill on consoles at ends. Wavy eaves fascia. Left wing mirrors right, but double doors 3 fielded panels each, with 2-pane rectangular fanlight. First floor two 16-pane sash windows, lintels and sills as ground floor. Plain stone string course to base of gable: 16-pane sash with half hexagonal head. Plain bargeboard on shaped corbels at foot. Scalloped eaves fascia to returns. Chimney base each side over ridge of wings, moulded top; 2 diamond-set stacks above, stone quoins, moulded stone caps. C20 lean-to extension on left end. Originally school for Chartist settlement, with 2-acre plot. Forms group with Chartist cottages (q.v.). (V.C.H. Gloucestershire, Vol.VIII, 1972; A.M. Hadfield, The Chartist Land Company, 1970)
